How can I transition to Smart Logbook from a paper logbook?

I’m ready to try a digital logbook, but what can I do with the flights I’ve already logged in physical logbooks?

If you’re currently using a paper logbook, you have two basic options: you can import your individual flights, or you can carry forward just your previous totals.

Carry Forward Your Previous Totals

The easiest and fastest way to get your previous time included is to add one or more carry-forward entries to Smart Logbook. These let you log all of your existing hours and other totals (e.g. takeoffs / landings), so they are included in your overall totals.

Importing Your Flights

A more thorough method is to import all of your previous flights individually. Although this is usually more work than just carrying forward your totals, it will preserve the full record of your flying history. Smart Logbook supports importing flights from a .CSV file, which can be generated by Microsoft Excel (or other spreadsheet app).

You could even use both options. Start with carry-forward entries, so your totals are correct as you begin logging new flights in Smart Logbook. Then later import your previous flights and remove the carry-forward totals.
